Vision

User Needs

• To be able to run the LANDIS-II model without using a command prompt.
• To have immediate feedback concerning invalid input parameters. Currently users must run LANDIS-II to find out if there are errors in their input files.
• To easily examine (browse) the output files.

High-level Features

• A single application (suite of tools or environment) for all text input to LANDIS-II.
• Displays console output.
• Tools for editing core data: ecoregions, species, scenarios, initial communities.
• Plug-N-Play functionality for individual LANDIS-II extensions.
• Default tool for unregistered extensions = simple text editor.
• Works in conjunction with extension code to avoid duplicating validation.
• Interoperability with ascii text file model inputs.

• Could be expanded to include tools for viewing or creating GIS data.
