This page is intended to help the novice modeler or those unfamiliar with LANDIS models to understand the basics of LANDIS-II. This introduction explains the basics of who, how, why, and why not. The peer-reviewed literature that explains the science in more detail is listed with the individual extensions and in the List of Publications on the documentation page. User guides for the core model and for extensions are similar to computer manuals - documentation of the commands and variables needed to run the model.
